About Me

Hi, I'm Mary, and welcome to Me With My Head in the Clouds, my blog, where I journal about art and my faith, two very important parts of who I am.

I am a wife, a mother to two daughters who are both married, two step-grandsons, plus a few God-daughters who have found their way into my life and my heart, along with a dozen or so God-grandchildren..

A bit about me:

I have worked in full time ministry at my church for the past 13 years. While it has its ups and downs, as any job does, it is also my dream job. I am an executive director, which means I have my head in the business end of the church. But the best part of my job is overseeing our outreach ministries. This is where my heart's passions have really developed. Our church adopted a public elementary school 10 years ago and since then I have begun a journey of working with kids and single moms. I am now blessed with about a dozen adopted grand kids! My job focus has shifted in the past few years to serving teachers through a school supply pantry and helping connect other churches with adopting public schools. We are striving to help improve the lives of inner city  kids, families, and the community. In this I have found my life's calling ~ to be a voice for the voiceless. In our society kids, single moms, and people living in poverty are some of the ones whose voices have been silenced. These groups of people are often the most misunderstood. I have great joy in being used by God in the lives of others.

A few years ago I got hooked on making art with paper. I love art journaling, making travel books, altering old books into journals, and dabbling in mixed media art. I also enjoy doing digital art and photography. In my busy, busy ministry and work life art has become the thing that re-energizes me.

I love experiencing God's creation. He is the ultimate artist and I am continually overwhelmed by the beauty of nature ~ fall leaves, water, trees, birds, mountains, and clouds...especially clouds! I am easily distracted by beautiful sky and clouds and take numerous pictures of them. I also enjoy spending time with kids, movies, and reading. My other great passion is for Bible study and teaching others how to study the Bible using online resources.

I am on a continual journey of figuring out who I am - the real me - the me God created me to be.

The one place you can always find me is "with my head in the clouds", thinking about art or lost in the wonder and awe of God's creation.

  3. I absolutely LOVE your blog!!! Your hand lettering is Beautiful and I love the colors you use in your art. I was wondering if you would be willing to share what you use for your color mediums and did you take a class to learn the lettering? I am new to art journaling and am very inspired by your style!!!

  4. Mary! Greetings to you from the UK. I only discovered your blog today - but what a good day to discover you! You've already appeared in several pins (!) and this afternoon I'm going to try making some circles. I'm intrigued to know how this is going to fit in with my just-started reading of "The Circle Maker" my Mark Batterson. I think there's a Plan somewhere ;-)

  5. Mary, what a blessing to come upon your blog today! We seem to be similar in many ways with the exception of the fact that my ministry is not full-time. I am over children's ministry in our local body. It is not a big ministry in numbers but certainly in the spirit! I love to art journal with mixed media. I started out water color and still love that, but mixed media has become my favorite. My journal is an expression of my spiritual relationship with the Lord and ministry in it's own right that God continues to bless in me with provision for. I believe even in this, what some would call a hobby, if we are glorifying Him, He will provide! He is so good! I loved reading your blog and your art is so beautiful and inspiring! Bless you as you continue to bring Him glory through that art and your ministry! Thank you for the glimpse into YOU!
